it began on the tenerife strip…
We actually met the old-fashioned way. On night out in Tenerife! It was Em’s first trip post-covid with one of her oldest friends… the kind of holiday that was long overdue.
Meanwhile, Ty was on a classic lads holiday! Imagine 10+ Essex boys causing chaos in Las Americas, drinking their body-weight in cheap cocktails and somehow surviving daily hangovers by the pool. You get the picture, it was chaotic.
We met in a bar on the strip. There were tequila shots flowing (we had a fair few) and we were dancing the night away. We instantly both clicked!
Then we ended up spending two of Em’s 5 nights together, completely inseparable. Before Em had to catch a flight home!
Our story continued…
Holiday romance to real life!
There was something about us meeting that felt different… Em wasn’t convinced she wouldn’t see Ty again. Let’s be honest, holiday romances don’t exactly have the best rep & we were 2 hours apart from one another back home!
But to her surprise, Ty kept messaging once home, asking when he could take her on a “proper” date in the UK. So he drove down from Essex (very Gavin & Stacey style) and we sat and had fish & chips on the beach.
And the rest? Well it just unfolded from there…
Backpacking Era!
World trip pending
We both loved to travel prior to meeting & we both realised that we wanted to see more of the world! We had also both dreamt of doing a trip one day but had just never taken the leap… so what was originally meant to be a 3-week trip to New Zealand for Em’s cousin’s wedding ended up spiralling into something much bigger!
That one trip essentially sparked the idea for a 9-month backpacking adventure!
Em needed a little more convincing but before we knew it we were handing in our notices, packed our lives into backpacks & booked a one-way flight & it turned out to be the BEST decision we have ever made!
Because let’s be real… there is never a perfect time to travel. If we had waited, we’d probably still be making excuses… “if not now, when?”
AND the rest is history !!!
