Rewinding to the start…
How did we meet? 🕺💃
We actually met the old-fashioned way — on a night out, on holiday, in Tenerife! 🌴
It was Em’s first post-COVID girls’ trip with one of her oldest friends — the kind of holiday that was long overdue after months of lockdowns. Meanwhile, Ty was on a classic lads holiday… imagine 10+ Essex boys causing chaos in Las Americas, drinking their bodyweight in cheap cocktails, and somehow surviving daily hangovers by the pool. You get the picture.
We met in a bar on the strip — music loud, neon lights flashing, tequila shots flowing (we had a fair few) — and instantly clicked. We danced like no one was watching (even though we’re sure everyone was), and ended up spending two of Em’s five nights together, completely inseparable.
There was something about it that just felt… different.
Em wasn’t convinced she’d ever see Ty again — let’s be honest, holiday romances don’t exactly have the best rep — but to her surprise, he kept messaging once they were home, asking when he could take her on a proper date in the UK.
And the rest? Well, it just unfolded from there… or should we say… the rest is HISTORY !!
How did we plan &
end up backpacking? 🎒
It all started with a love for travel, a post-COVID reality check, and one big question:
What was originally meant to be a 3-week trip to New Zealand for Em’s cousin’s wedding quickly spiralled into something much bigger.
That one trip sparked the idea for a 9-month backpacking adventure — and before we knew it, we were handing in our notices, stuffing our lives into backpacks, and booking a one-way flight.
Ty was all in from the start — Em just needed a tiny bit more convincing (okay… maybe a lot). But once we took the leap, we never looked back.
We kept asking ourselves… “If not now, then when?”
Because let’s be honest. There’s never really a perfect time to travel. Either that, or we’d keep up with excuses not to…
